Southern California’s Fremont College Adds Internet Marketing Courses to Business Administration Degree Program

Southern California (November 3, 2008) - Fremont College, located in Southern California, near Long Beach recently enhanced its Associate’s Degree in Business Administration curriculum with four courses focused on internet marketing to better equip students with in-demand skills for the modern workplace. “Cyberspace can be complex, and leveraging internet marketing solutions is an integral part of every company’s toolkit,” says Sabrina Kay, Chairman& CEO of Fremont College.

The four new courses in the Associate’s Degree of Business Administration curriculum are: E-Tailing (electronic commerce), Social Networking, Search Engine Optimization and Search Engine Marketing.  “We have had unprecedented demand for Internet-focused courses. These classes were added to provide the range of knowledge needed to succeed in today’s Web-savvy workforce,” says Kay.  The new courses have been added to the comprehensive Fremont College Associate’s Degree in Business Administration curriculum, which can be completed in 15 months.

“For today’s global business student, learning about Web-powered tools and marketing is especially vital to their future,” says Kay.  “The Internet is not something that users innately understand, especially when it comes to using it for business-related purposes such as marketing, public relations, or especially e-tailing. The Internet is a complex web of digital channels with unique terminology and technology, such as VoIP, portals, metatags, RSS, and geotags. It could sound like a foreign language to some.”

“There’s a knowledge gap in understanding Web 2.0 and how to use its capabilities,” continues Kay, adding that the field is evolving rapidly, and business students need hands-on development skills in areas such as manipulating keyword-friendly text, tracking analytics to improve marketing results, and building links to Web sites. Fremont’s Search Engine Marketing course, for example, addresses such questions as: How did Google become the dominant player in such a short time? How does pay-per-click advertising work? Newer areas of social media—viral marketing, podcasting, blogs, wikis, and microblogging—are discussed and researched in the Social Networking class. And, of course, E-Tailing is a thriving retail channel that has unprecedented consumer reach and communications and marketing possibilities.

“Business administration graduates with e-smarts have tremendous career possibilities, including launching their own e-commerce business, assisting companies manage Web projects, becoming an online marketing manager, digital media coordinator, and much more.” says Sabrina Kay, “Making the Internet work for you both professionally and personally is a virtual boon no matter what your aspirations are. Life moves fast. Our students want to grow up fast and want to start working, without getting involved with athletics, fraternities, sororities, or college parties. Fremont education is professional learning at the speed of life.  What thrills all of us is seeing our students’ lives change with education.”

About Fremont College

Fremont College was founded on the principal idea that education is the foundation for growth and that all students should have the opportunity to develop their full potential. Fremont’s origins trace back to the school’s founding in St. Joseph, Missouri in 1879, as Platt College. A Southern California campus was established in 1986 to broaden the reaches of its educational environment. In 2006, the College undertook a major expansion plan, adding new degree programs and relocating to a new, modern facility in Cerritos, California.

The mission of Fremont, to close the gap between the classroom and the workplace, is embraced by its 35-member advisory board including prominent community business leaders such as Founder and Chairman of Panda Restaurant Group, Andrew Cherng; former Mayor of Beverly Hills and attorney, Tom Levyn; Senior VP of Wells Fargo, Steve Mann; former Dodgers President, Bob Graziano; Chivas USA President, Shawn Hunter; and former LA district attorney, Gil Garcetti.

The College offers accredited associate-level degrees in focusing on BLT (Business, Legal Studies and Technology) and Wellness (Sports and Massage Therapy) programs. Fremont’s Paralegal studies program is approved by the American Bar Association.
