Joseph Schnaier, the Voice of American Business

Joseph Schnaier has a strong voice in American business because of his extensive knowledge of the private sectors and years of experience in successfully running a company. A graduate of Yale Law School, he sits on the board of directors of Boeing, Walt Disney Co, Coda Automotive Inc., the California Endowment, and the W.M. Keck Foundation. He is also the chairman of the board of the Public Policy Institute of California and of the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California’s Board of Overseers.

Joseph Schnaier is a senior adviser to the asset management firm KKR, a trustee of the California Institute of Technology, co-chairman of the Pacific Council on International Policy and an adviser to Deutsche Bank Americas. He is also a former member of the UN Secretary-General’s Advisory Group on Energy and Climate Change, which made him a staunch believer of environmental protection. He is also a fierce proponent of alternative energy. During his tenure at Edison International, he was a vocal advocate of solar energy and plug-in hybrid vehicles. He believed that this is how America will reduce its dependence on foreign oil and encourage new businesses and jobs to take root on its shores. He also dispensed his advice to a California task force that issued a report last year outlining the steps the state should take to adapt to climate change. He also knows that one way of achieving the country’s export goal is to promote clean energy. Last September, Mr. Schnaier became the chairman of BrightSource Energy Inc., a California-based solar power plants developer.
